Foster a Horse

THIS FORM IS INTENDED TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR US TO DIFFERENTIATE FOSTER HOMES FROM ADOPTIVE HOMES. IF YOUR PRIMARY INTEREST IS ADOPTION, PLEASE COMPLETE THAT FORM BY CLICKING HERE.

ABOUT FOSTERING:

  • CANTER NE foster homes are financially responsible for the costs of boarding and feeding the horse; CANTER pays all vet and farrier bills.
  • Foster caregivers can receive a tax writeoff of $20/day for donated boarding services.
  • Foster homes need to be willing to allow the horses in their care to be shown to prospective adopters, and must understand that there are no guarantees as to a horse's length of stay at their facility. If you are genuinely looking for a horse to keep, please complete the adoption form, not the foster form.

Please tell us some information about your experience and the facility where the horse will be stabled.

You will be required to sign a Lifetime Bill of Sale Adoption Agreement at the time of adoption. The adopted horse may never race again. Follow-up farm visits may be performed if deemed necessary by CANTER.

Although you are allowed to sell, lease or transfer an adoptively placed horse in the future (only after CANTER has approved the new home through the standard approval process), the Lifetime Bill of Sale Adoption Agreement remains in effect for the lifetime of the horse and all new owners are bound by the conditions of this agreement.

The Lifetime Bill of Sale Adoption Agreement requires, among other things, that CANTER be provided with a right of first refusal in the event of transfer of this horse, and requires approval and notification in writing of the new owner. CANTER New England requires that ANY and ALL prospective new owners be appproved by us prior to agreeing to the transfer of ownership of any adoptively placed horse.

If you are NOT willing to abide by these terms, please consider a trainer-listed horse, as these conditions will not apply to horses purchased directly from trainers.
