C06-2200-11. CANTER-OWNED MARE,
Chestnut, 15.3 hands, 6 years old
"Anna La La" is as fun as her name would suggest: this is a
friendly, happy, sweet-natured horse! Anna has been off the track for 2 years
and has really blossomed in foster care. (Her foster mom ADORES her, was even
leaning towards keeping her, but reluctantly decided she has more than enough
Suffolk Downs "alums" already!) Anna's only issue is that her feet can
sometimes bug her (she has thin hoof walls), so she will need a good farrier to
make sure her hooves are in great shape. However, Anna runs around the pasture
like she's aiming for a racing career all over again (we don't have the heart to
tell her she wasn't exactly a world beater when she WAS racing), and is looking
and feeling great. Anna is the alpha mare with other horses, and needs to
be turned out alone (alongside another horse over the fenceline), or with a
docile pasturemate. She is inquisitive and intelligent. Though she is green
under saddle, she should retrain easily as a show or pleasure prospect.

CANTER-OWNED MARE, Bright bay, 15.3 hands (with a wide-bodied build), 18 years
old
"Southern
Luck" -
aka "Luckie" - is a quality mare in every way: she's gorgeous, with a
classic, Warmblood-type build; gentle and exceptionally well-mannered; and a
fluid, pretty mover! You would think upon meeting her that this beauty is 8 -
not 18!
Though she has spent the past several years as a broodmare, Luckie has really
found her niche as a riding horse. She should make an outstanding dressage,
pleasure or trail horse under saddle.
This mare is SO special that her foster mom's young daughter hopped on her
within days of Luckie arriving from her old home at the breeding farm; Luckie
took to it in stride! Luckie has many years ahead of her as a trusty dressage and/or pleasure
horse (she is very sound and feels great, but not suitable for open jumping,
eventing, or similarly strenuous disciplines). She would love to be someone's
devoted buddy for lower-level shows, as well as for jaunts on the trails and the
beach!

TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bright
bay, 15.3 hands, 6 years old
"Silky Fredie" is a mahogany-coated gentleman with a darling
face and a very athletic physique. Trainer
bred and raised this boy, and you can tell he's been treated exceptionally well
his entire life. Fredie is sound, "never had an issue" per trainer -
just not earning his keep racing, so he's now ready to learn how to be a show
horse. Price Reduced: $2,000 negotiable.

BACK IN THE LISTINGS! T08-2489-07. TRAINER-OWNED
STALLION, Bay, 16.2 hands, 5 years old
"Love of Chocolate" is a BIG, gorgeous Mr. Prospector grandson
who only made a couple of starts during his racing career...he was just too
slow. An outrider at the track took him on last year to become a
"pony" horse, escorting runners to the starting gate, and Chocolate
spent the entire winter learning the ropes under saddle. Owner reluctantly
selling only because Chocolate is proving too mellow to pony at the track...he's
a very relaxed, laid-back fellow who'd be thrilled to be someone's show prospect
or pleasure buddy instead. Although he's a stallion, Chocolate is as non-studdish
a guy as you'll ever find; has been stabled right next door to mares without
batting an eye. He neck reins, trail rides, loves people, and has no vices.
Note: CANTER volunteers were at the track recently and saw Pete hop on Chocolate
bareback, with only a leadrope, to ride him in the shedrow. He had not been on
the horse all week and he behaved perfectly! We were pretty impressed! Young,
showy, and ready to move on to greener pastures! Price: $1,000. NEW PHONE
NUMBER: Call Pete Cimini at 401-465-9057.

TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Black (or very, very close to it), 16.2 hands, 6 years
old
"Patton's Pistol" - who goes by "Baby Boy" around the
barn - is so endearing, you'll be comparing him to the Black Beauty you always
dreamed of. This sweet horse is blind in one eye, due to an accident as a foal,
but has never been hampered by it and is excellent under saddle. He is a
sensational mover and trainer says he "loves having a job, just going out
there and working." Is sound on an old, set, very slight bowed tendon.

"Sunny Somewhere" is a total blank slate - he's never raced,
and is primed to start retraining for a new career. Big and well on his way to
getting still bigger, this youngster has personality plus and is an impressive
mover, to boot. Price Reduced: MAKE AN OFFER: very negotiable to a great home.

TRAINER-OWNED
GELDING, Dark bay, 15.2 hands (and growing!), 4 years
old
Look how proud "Delaware
Bound" is under tack, and rightfully so. This is a very fancy little
gelding - he looks much bigger than his 15.2 hands under saddle, and as he's
only 4, should continue to grow. His trainer is also a competitive eventing
rider, and raves about Delaware's nimble way of going and great brain. She
recognizes that he's a far better sporthorse prospect than a racehorse, and he
has spent a very productive winter on the farm...where we're hearing he is an "awesome
ride, already popping over crossrails, does everything asked of him with talent
and enthusiasm!" Would make an excellent show horse for a child or
smaller adult! PRICE REDUCED:
MAKE AN OFFER - open to any and all offers, but must be TB-experienced and have
references! Contact Jenny Young

GELDING, Dark bay, 16.1 hands (and still growing!), 4 years old
"Silent Weapon" is a horse who knows how to take a picture:
look how perfectly he posed. Just recently arrived in trainers' barn, and
they're working on fattening him up a bit; he's already very handsome, and a
lovely mover, too. Trainers think he's going to be a far better sporthorse than
racehorse, and should transition to a new career with aplomb. In Delaware but
still for sale! PRICE REDUCED: MAKE AN OFFER - must sell! Call Richard at
240-372-9761 or Glenda at 301-758-9923 (please leave a message if you get voice
mail).

C07-2639-11. CANTER-OWNED GELDING, Dark Bay, 16.1 hands, 5 years old
"S.W.
Duce" came into the world as a member of racing royalty: bred and born
in the Kentucky bluegrass, his sire, Behrens, earned nearly $5 million on the
track. Hopes were high for Duce, and he showed considerable talent when he began
his racing career. Unfortunately, Duce was hindered by knee chips that emerged
in the midst of his 3-year-old campaign. Surgery to remove the chips did not
help - new chips immediately reappeared, and Duce was unable to compete at his
previous level. Soon after he pulled up in what would prove to be his final race
at Suffolk Downs, his trainer, Bobby Raymond, approached CANTER.
Duce is a perfect
gentleman (clearly knowing how a blueblood should act!), and made the transition
to farm life with aplomb. His foster parents can't say enough good about him;
he's like a big dog, following his foster dad around and loving nothing more
than to be brushed and fussed over. He also gets quite a kick out of watching
the deer that occasionally show up on the property! Duce was initially believed
unlikely to come riding sound. However, he is now moving very well out in the
pasture and his foster mom's vet is hopeful that he will be able to start trying
out life as a flatwork/trail horse come spring.

C08-2640-11. CANTER-OWNED MARE, Chestnut,
16.1 hands, 5 years old
"Joshie
Man" has
a rather unfortunate name, given that she's no "man" - she's actually
a lovely, elegant mare! 16.1 hands of playful exuberance and showy moves, Joshie
just entered CANTER's adoption program at the close of the 2008 Suffolk
meet. She has swelling in the tendon of her left front ankle that causes her to
move stiffly when she first gets going, but she trots out very, very nicely
after "warming up," and we are hopeful she will make a full recovery
with time off over the winter.

C09-2641-02. CANTER-OWNED GELDING, Liver chestnut, 16.2 hands (and still
growing!), 4 years old
"Here Comes Forrest" is a beautifully bred young gelding who
just never amounted to much on the track. He's now all let down and enjoying
himself on the farm (NOTE: Forrest is currently located in South Carolina
- but Northeast-based trainer will transport him to New England for the right,
approved adopter). This
guy is a TALL drink of water with big, turf-horse feet. He's been started under
saddle and loves the trails; rides quietly, is bold and forward, and handles
cars, hounds, and farm machinery with aplomb...even self-loads onto the trailer!
Regular rider describes him as "light on the aides, has a soft mouth - goes
in a Herm Sprenger KK Ultra snaffle. Will go English and Western; can easily see
him showing at the lower levels." Forrest is pinfired, but is cute and
sound...and did we mention, fun?
SOLD T09-2642-05. TRAINER-OWNED
GELDING, Gray, 16 hands (and growing!), 4 years old
"Unfinishedbusiness" is a dappled
gray gentleman with textbook good looks, and it's no wonder; he's a
Kentucky-bred son of hot stallion Buddha, and sold for $140,000 as a yearling.
Trainer describes him as "a super nice guy - easy to gallop, easy to work
with," and he was a consummate professional during his photo shoot. This
handsome young boy bowed his left front tendon in his most recent race, and will
need stall rest and TLC while it heals...but give him the summer off to
recuperate, and he should be a fantastic retraining project by fall. Price:
$500 to an excellent home only - NO DEALERS. Call Jeri at
978-490-8921.
SOLD T09-2643-06. TRAINER-OWNED
MARE, Gray/roan, 15.3 hands, 4 years old
"Raspberry Girl" is a beautiful youngster with rocking-horse
coloring...sweet, uncomplicated, and kind, she's just not making it at the
track. Trainer doesn't have the money to keep her in race training, and knows
she'll be much better suited as a show prospect. With time, groceries, and TLC,
this daughter of Belmont winner Victory Gallop will be simply stunning! Price:
$1,800 negotiable. Call Kerry at 603-548-3870.
