DONATED SERVICES AND SPECIAL MENTIONS

Thank you to our extraordinary foster caregivers for giving our adoptive placement horses a great new start in life! If you'd like to join the ranks of these noble horsemen and horsewomen, please fill out the foster form here.

Thank you to SUFFOLK DOWNS - under the leadership of new owner Richard Fields, chief operating officer Chip Tuttle, and  VP of racing Sam Elliott - for its support of CANTER NE and brave commitment to the welfare of retiring racers!

Special thanks also go to trainer Lorita Lindemann, a tireless advocate for Suffolk horses, and to director of publicity Christian Teja, who has gone out of his way to promote CANTER NE's retirement and rehoming efforts.

Thank you to BLUE HORSE CHARITIES and THOROUGHBRED CHARITIES OF AMERICA for their indispensable support of our rescue and rehoming programs!

Flying High Stables
is a wonderfully caring, very knowledgeable CANTER NE foster barn that offers first-rate lessons and boarding, too! Located in Andover, MA, Flying High is run by the outstanding horseman David Wilson. Call or e-mail for more information.

Flying High Stables - does a TB good!

Thank you to the fantastic Lemonade Girls, who work tirelessly to fundraise for horses in need! These young ladies are true horsewomen, through and through, and are setting an example of selflessness and dedication for animal lovers of all ages. Please visit their web site, and purchase one of their beautiful bracelets to help the horses! Drop them a line to donate to their very worthy efforts: the_lemonade_girls@yahoo.com.

Our endless admiration and gratitude go to the renowned racing photographer Patricia McQueen, who devotes her time and remarkable artistry to photographing our rescue horses and benefit hunter pace participants!

Patricia also donated two stunning photos of Jerry Bailey and Cigar for our very successful 2008 MassCap raffle. Thank you, Patricia, for all you do!

New England racing industry professionals should look no further than Shooter's Run Farm, a central NH Thoroughbred boarding and training facility, for excellent care and true expertise. Farm owner Steve Wyle is a devoted CANTER NE foster dad, with a special understanding of OTTBs. Contact Steve at 603-345-6667 or swyle@shootersrun.com to learn more!

Thank you to the wonderful Laurie Tuozzolo for her beautiful craftsmanship, and great generosity, in donating her lovely equestrian-themed plaques for our fundraisers!

Please check out Laurie's gorgeous plaques on her web site, When They Whisper.

THANKS from us and all the horses to the very special people who have donated items or sponsorships for our first-ever Online Benefit Auction!

Our hearts are full of gratitude to "DressageGeek" on the Chronicle of the Horse Messageboard, a board full of truly wonderful folks. DressageGeek organized a Secret Santa for Horse Rescues among the board's posters, and CANTER NE was a very fortunate recipient! COTH has been so generous to CANTER NE and we want to thank all the members of the messageboard!

We also must say a special thank you to Lori of Sunkissed Acres Rescue in Georgia, who generously donated items to CANTER NE as part of the COTH Messageboard Secret Santa for Rescues! Lori and her group do incredibly difficult but essential work, and we are so touched that they've extended a hand to help our rescue-ees, too!

PLEASE CONSIDER SUPPORTING SUNKISSED ACRES IN THEIR RESCUE EFFORTS: contact Lori at miasmom@alltel.net to see how you can help!

"THANK YOU" just doesn't seem enough to say to Jessica Creighton, Bruce Stone, and all the folks at the New Hampshire International Speedway for generously giving CANTER NE space for a fundraising booth at the NASCAR Sylvania 300! The event was a huge success, and the proceeds will do so much for our horses in adoptive care, as well as for horses still at the track and awaiting assistance.

Jessica has personally come to the aid of several Suffolk horses in crisis in the last couple of years...and she and Bruce, along with their friends at NHIS, are continuing to build a legacy of kindness, with great ramifications for New England's racers on four legs (instead of four wheels)!

Many, many thanks to Tom Cross and his amazing team at King Oak Farm! Through their generously allowing CANTER to have a presence at their Fall Trials, essential funds were raised that will help many horses. The world-class nature of this farm extends well beyond its gorgeous facilities - it's a truly compassionate place, too. Everyone had a wonderful time at our Benefit Hunter Paces at King Oak on May 18 and September 28! We can't wait until next spring!

Our ongoing gratitude to SmartPak Equine for designating CANTER New England as a beneficiary charity of their wonderful SmartBlue program (great-looking items whose purchase generates a percentage of proceeds to help horse rescue organizations!) SmartPak has long supported CANTER NE, and we can all personally vouch for their A+ customer service and outstanding line of products.

Lots and lots of thanks - and a hearty recommendation to prospective customers! - go to Anne Nadel's Wimsey's Echo Equestrian Supply in Marshfield, VT. Anne is a devoted "mom" to 3 OTTBs - two of whom were adopted through CANTER NE! - and is fantastic about collecting donations and organizing raffles to help other, not-as-fortunate horses at the track.

Stop by Wimsey's Echo, from 10-5 Tuesday through Saturday, or by appointment:

1696 US Rte. 2
Marshfield, VT 05658
802-426-2088

We also want to give a hearty nod of recognition to the members of the Trailblazers 4H Club, who bought many chances for Anne's latest raffle to help support CANTER NE!

Please stop by Anne's beautiful store and learn all about her 4-legged kiddos!

Much appreciation to the compassionate and highly skilled Dr. Grant Myhre, for always providing great care to our horses and supporting equine rescue.

The CANTER NE volunteers were recently treated to a wonderful surprise: a generous donation from the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School District's INTERACT Club! Club president Caeli wrote us a moving letter detailing the club's all-day waffle breakfast, with proceeds benefiting CANTER NE! THANK YOU, Caeli and friends, from the OTTBs!

THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts to Dr. John A. Perdrizet, DVM of Sanctuary Animal Clinic in Holyoke, MA. Not only did Dr. Perdrizet perform life-saving roadside care for the injured rescue mare Patience - he also gave us a most generous discount!

Thanks also go to the Tufts New England Medical Center's Hospital for Large Animals for their state-of-the-art treatment of Patience. They were all pulling for her as hard as all her friends were, and offered us a much-appreciated discount on Patience's bill.

Our deepest gratitude to the incredibly talented artist Pat DeLong for offering to donate the proceeds of her gorgeous Man o'War painting to benefit CANTER NE - specifically helping with the costs of Patience's treatment and recuperation! Pat's extraordinary equine art and other gorgeous gift items can be purchased here.

Thanks to Dr. Suzanne Loheac of Backstretch Veterinary in Sherborn, MA for her special care and attention to OTTBs for the past several years. She and her colleagues can be reached at 508-655-7839.

Thanks to Susan Lindberg and all the folks at Parelli Natural Horsemanship Inc. for generously donating tickets to their much-anticipated tour stop in West Springfield, MA!

Thanks to Reg Burgess of AANDR Equine Transportation for his great kindness in offering to transport our injured rescue mare, Patience.

Thank you to the caring crew at D & D Horse & Tack in North Springfield, VT! They made the lovely gesture of donating several items for the injured mare Patience while she recuperates at her foster home. We'd like to refer others to shop at this great store with such a kindhearted staff. D & D is located at 21 Route 106 in North Springfield and can be reached at 802-886-4979.

Thanks to Jan Anderson and her compassionate (and DELICIOUS...so the horses tell us!) horse cookie business...King's Cookies! Inspired by her own rescued OTTB, King of Spain - a Suffolk Downs "alum" - Jan founded King's Cookies to offer horse owners healthy, handmade treats for their equine friends. Thirty percent of all proceeds benefit TB rescue and retirement programs. To order cookies, visit the King's Cookies web site or call 848-448-4591.

Thank you to Effective Natural Pets, who have donated their great supplement "Equine Calming Aid" to ease the transition for our rescue horses coming off the track!

THANK YOU to the expert crew at The Cheshire Horse in Keene, NH for their donations of superb-quality products for our horses in foster care!

Our gratitude to Don Van, president of EQyss Grooming Products; a TB owner himself, he donated a case of the fabulous, cruelty-free Canadian Marigold Horse Spray to keep our foster horses comfortable in the hot summer weather! Thank you, Don and EQyss!

THANK YOU to Cargill/Nutrena for donating their excellent SafeChoice feed for two of our horses in foster care, The Lights Are On and Senior Coco!

Thanks to NutraMax Products, Inc. for donating their very helpful arthritis supplement Cosequin® ASU to benefit one of our since-adopted horses, Strike Twice.

Our hats are off to farrier David Conley for his donated hoof care for our foster horses! David is based in western MA and can be reached at 508-414-2120.

Our most sincere thanks to all the crew at Dover Saddlery. Thanks to their generosity, many of our foster horses are being warmed by Dover blankets!
(And we all love to shop there too--good stuff at great prices!)

Hear, hear to Equinesite- New England's online horse community - for highlighting our program over the years!

Our most sincere thanks to Liz Goldsmith of Goldsmith PR for devoting her time and ability to spotlighting CANTER's rescue work!

A nod to Lynlee Smith and L.W. Bristol Classics for contributing gorgeous CANTER lapel pins for our special events and fundraising projects!

CANTER NE would like to acknowledge Dr. Cynthia Reynolds for her superlative chiropractic and acupuncture work on some of our rescue horses. Dr. Reynolds is located in Searsport, ME and can be reached at 207-548-0995.

Many thanks to amazing equine massage therapist, energy therapist, and saddle fitter and flocker Margot Roberts, ESMT, of Members of our Family. Marget specializes in energy work, and has lent her talented touch to benefit our foster horses. Margot is based in the greater Boston area and can be reached at margot@membersofourfamily.com or 617-290-6344. We highly recommend her! UPDATE: Margot has made the generous offer to give a 20 percent discount on her services to anyone who adopts a horse through CANTER New England!

THANK YOU to The Plaid Horse for showcasing some of our wonderful available horses!

A grateful salute to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation for ensuring the safe retirement of MANY Suffolk Downs horses...and racing TBs all over the country...over the years.
